HW # 76

One non - fiction book I read was a book about Martin Luther King, JR. I read the book because it was Black History Month and my teacher read it to the class. The book is mainly about the life and legacy of Dr. King. I like non - fiction books better because I like real life facts and stories. Fictions have all those fake characters, that are okay, but not as good as the events that take place in real life. My favorie non - fiction subjects are war and fighting. I like those stories because their exciting and a fun thing to read about. For example, I read a comic book about the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941 and about the Revolutionary War. Non - fiction books are fascinating and fun to read.

Challenges of the Logans

The Logan family lives in 1933 Mississippi. They live in a segregated town with lots of racist white folk. The Logans face tough challenges and hatred from the white towns people, but they don't accept the hate without fighting. They are strong, tough people who do not take anything from anyone.

The Logans face hatred and segregation from the white folks in their neighborhood. Like the day the Logan kids were waiting for the school bus. The bus took a long time to come, but when it finally came, the bus splashed water and mud from the ground onto the kids. While the bus was driving away, kids on the bus yelled, " Nigger Nigger Mud Eater", at the kids. Another example of the hatred shown to the Logans is when T. J, a friend of the Logans, was framed for the murder of Jim Lee Barnett. TJ was befriended by RW and Melvin Simms. One night, Melvin, RW, and TJ went to Strawberry. They had a plan to steal a pistol, but when Mr. Barnett came they got scared. So RW hit Jim Lee with a flat axe and then they all T. J was blamed for the murder Mr.Barnett. I feel bad for TJ and the Logans.

Even though they have tough, frustrating problems, the Logans do not stay down and have the racist whites walk all over them. After being humiliated by the bus driver, the Logan children hatch a brilliant plan. At school, during lunch, the kids went to the garden house and stole some shovels. In the heavy rain, the kids dug up holes near a sidewalk. " Good, the more rain, the better," said Stacey. See, the plan was to have water from the road fill in the holes and as the bus came by, it would get stuck after hitting the holes.

HW # 71

Farewell to my Lunchbag - Chapter 1 : Chapter 1 starts out in the lunchroom with Ms.Bargoong and a frog name Chet talking. Chet came up to get his lunch and he seen Ms.Bargoong. She seemed down and glum. He asked her what was wrong. She said someone is stealing the lunch food. She was worried about the kids losing their lunch and her losing her job. Chet gets mad too. He didn't want to lose his and he also didn't want Ms.Bargoong to lose her job. She breaks it down for him and tells Chet what was stolen. She said some bananas, butterflies, and eggs were stolen. Chet said that Ms.Bargoong looked worser than a bowl of broccoli. She must've been pretty sad then. Chet void to find the theif and stop the cimes from happening.

This reminds me of when I was in the third grade. About 3 kids had something stolen. One kid lost a gameboy. He got in trouble with his mom and was yelled at in public at school. Everyone blamed this one kid, but secretly, I thoguht he was innocent. No one confessed and no one found his gameboy and soon, no one talked about it again.

Roll of Thunder Essay

The Logans have a very tough life to live. They have to deal with segregation, hatred, and racism. I would feel the same way about some of the challenges, but I would've done things different. I' m glad that I'm not the Logans right now.

The Logans deal with a lot of challenges in the story. The Logans feel scared and angry at the same time about their situations. I would feel the same way if I were the Logans. I would react just like Uncle Hammer. Hammer was furious when Cassie told him, " Lillian Jean tried to knock me off the sidewalk then her daddy came along and he twisted my arm and knocked me off the sidewalk. I would want to choke the life out of Charlie Simms and his daughter. I would've had a sense of anger like the Logans kid had when the bus driver splashed them with water. When the bus was driving off, some of the kids on the bus yelled, " Nigger! Nigger! Mud Eater!" I would want to splashed all of them with lava. I think the Logans and I have similar feeling.

Although I would feel the same way as the Logans, I would do something different than them. The Logan kids dug up holes in the road while the rain was falling so when the bame bus came by, it would hit the holes.
