Chapter 9 : The Perfect Day

One day, Jess was absolutely happy. His morning started out normal. He woke up and then he milked Miss Bessie. He got into a slight fallout with his sisters. It was like a regular day in the life of Jess Aarons. He had had a thought about Leslie and if she could teach him how to swim in the creek. In the afternoon, May Belle called Jess saying someone was on he phone for him and on the phone was Ms. Edmunds. She wanted to know if he was interested in going with her to a museum. Jess asked his if he can go and she said yes. Jess was real excited to go and couldn't wait. He went to the museum and had a great ime. Adding to his great day. But when he came back home, he seen everyone in the house glum. He then learned something that would change his life forever. " Your girlfriend's dead, mom thought you were too."

This reminds me of when I was in fourth grade and Nobody knew where I was. The night before, I didn't finish my homework and I was trying to avoid getting in trouble. I knew I couldn't stay outside forever, so I had to go to school. When I went to class, my teacher started to go off on me. She turned orange like an orange crayon. When I got home that same afternoon, Mom started to go off on me even more. That was a bad day for me.

Chapter 8 : Easter

Jess and his family had plan to go to church on Easter. Since his mom had a big fallout with the preacher, Easter is the only time Jess and his family actually goes to church. His mom was going shopping for new church clothes, but something happened. Jess' dad came home from Washington early. The family soon learned that he got fired. That meant no new clothes. No church. Everyone was complaining about the situation. Leslie came to see Jess who was the only one not in the house. He told Leslie his dad got fired and didn't want to talk about it. Leslie then told Jess she wanted to go to church with him and his family. Jess was surprised. He thought Leslie wouldn't like something as boring as church.

This reminds me of when my mom lost her job. It was 2005. My mom had her third child a year before. She was home and got a call from her co-worker and friend Silvia. Silvia said that the old man that they took care of had died. He was taken to the hospital and died there. It was tough a little, but we didn,t live like poor people. My little brother's dad helped my mom out with money and soon, my mom got a second job doing the samething, but took care of a Jewish woman name Annie, who is really funny.

HW # 57

I think high school would be harder than middle school . It would be harder work and more work. I might have to stay up late with a lot of homework. I think it would more fun. I might get to do more interesting things in high school. Like participation in different activities. I think it would be an interesting four years.

Yes I think middle school will prepare me for high school. I'm specifically talking about 8th grade. I might learn some things about high school in 6th and 7th grade, but 8th grade is right before high school. So I will learn a lot about high school in 8th grade.

There's not very much that I want to know about high school. I just want to get through with middle school and hurry up and head to high school. A new era in my school life.

Chapter 7 : The Golden Room ( continue )

There is a problem one day at school. Its Janice Avery. Leslie saw her sitting on the toilet seat in the girls room crying. Jess was surprised and shocked. No one has ever seen her cry like that before. Jess' first thought was that people were teasing her about the fake note sent to Willard Hughes, but he knows no one teased her about it before. Leslie decided to go back into the bathroom and find out what's wrong. At the end of the day, Leslie told Jesse that Janice was crying because her dad beats her. She also told Jess that they were having a little chat with Janice and they have become kind of like friends. Jesse was stunned at the whole situation.

I remember when I was in the fourth grade and I started crying one day at lunchtime. I wouldn't tell anybody what was wrong. People kept asking me, but I just would't crack. The only person that got me to talk was the guidance counselor, Ms.Jolly. I had a personal problem and we discussed it together. She even had my mom come in to talk about the problem. She gave me a tip. If I don't want to talk about my problems, I can jot them down in a journal.

Chapter 7 : The Golden Room

So far in the chapter, Jess is unhappy. Leslie doesn't have time to spend with Jesse. She is helping her father with their home. I would say Jess is jealous of the fact that Leslie is spending more time with her father than with him. She doesn't have to spend all her time with Jess. Jess was even afraid to go into Terabithia by himself. To him, it was more magical with Leslie there with him.

Like Jess, feel left out sometimes. Me and my brother used to do a lot together. We would play wrestling and talk a lot. We still talk, but I would like to spend more time with him. He's sixteen and has a lot of friends who he talks to more than he does to me. I would just want at least another wrestling match with Tevin ( my brother ) and I'll be okay.

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry Setting

1. The story takes place in Mississippi. I know this because in the story it says, " Stacey and Christopher-John, and me, attempting to keep the rusty Mississippi dust from touching them."
2. The story takes place in 1933. I know this because in the story it says, " Now its 1933 and papa went to Louisiana again."
3.The challenges the Logan kids face is racism and discrimination because they black. I know that because they were waiting for the school bus and when the school bus came, the bus driver splashed water and mud on them. And while the bus was riding away, the kids called them, " Nigger! Nigger! Mud Eater!"
4. I wouldn't retaliate like them. I would have stabbed the bus driver and ran. Leaving the racist bus driver to bleed like left me to be wet and dirty.

5.No because I looked Mississippi during 1933 and I didn' t see anything about racism or discrimination. But was indeed hot and dusty.

Then at recess, May Belle ran to Jess and Leslie screaming. "She stole my twinkies. You got to kill Janice Avery. Kill her! Kill her! Kill her!" Jess said, " May Belle, didn't I tell you." Leslie tried to show May Belle comfort, but she wanted revenge. So Leslie and Jess said they will come up with a way for get Janice back. That afternoon, Jess and Leslie went to Terabithia to come up with a plan to get Janice Avery. They soon came up with the plan to write a note to Janice and pretend that it's from Willard Hughes, a boy Janice likes. While on the way home on the school bus, Janice came stomping on the bus. " Did'cha ", May Belle asked Jess and Leslie. When they said yes, May Belle was really happy.

Little has three older siblings, Cassie, Stacey, and Christopher-John. They live in Mississippi in 1933. Little Man doesn't like to be dirty. He likes to stay clean. NO UNIFORMS!

In his 1996 State Of The Union address,Bill Clinton suggested that public schools should have a uniform policy. President Clinton stated that school uniforms would creates less violence and teaches good values and citizenship. Well I disagree with that statement. School uniforms don't create good values and citizenship, people do. Forcing students to wear uniforms is unfair and it's untrue that allowing students to wear their own clothes creates violence and stops schools from teaching good values and citizenship.

Uniforms don't solve the problems their supporters say they do. For example, school uniforms doesn't stop violence and inequality. In "Say No to School Uniforms",it said,"Each city hoped that uniforms would limit school violence". Violence and hate can still happen. School uniforms can't stop students from hating each other and getting into fights. Another reason is that students have to wear the same style of clothes. Some students might find it boring to wear the same thing over and over. Also, school uniforms doesn't seem to stop peer pressure either. In "Say No to School Uniforms", it said,"Students will still want to follow the new fashion trends, even if they can't wear the clothes in class". Those are reasons school uniforms aren't what they're suppose to be.

If their were no school uniforms, this would be good for students. Students would have a sense of freedom. Students would be able to express themselves by wearing what they want.Like in "First Impressions",Shawna said"You can still express your individuality". That's the same situation with students and their uniforms. Students don't have to wear uniforms to be good people and have good character. They can wear anything and still act the same. Also,in "First Impressions",there was a passage where Shawna was reading a magazine and a section said "Clothes Make the Woman and the Man. Well the same thing goes for this statement. Uniforms don't change how boys and girls act.

Wearing school uniforms doesn't help change anything in school or society. I don't see the point to wear uniforms. I think students should wear what they want. Schools should give the students a chance to express themselves and get rid of uniforms.

Saturday, November 7, 2009

A passage from "First Impressions" that can help in my essay is the part when Shawna seen the title of a magazine article that said"Clothes Make the Woman and the Man."I can include that in my essay by disagreeing againist that by using it in a statement stating that uniforms doesn't help students with anything and that its just like any other outfit.
